Archie Panjabi (The Fall, The Good Wife) has joined the cast of ITV’s upcoming three-part factual drama The Widower, which tells the true story of convicted murderer Malcolm Webster. Panjabi has been cast as Simone Banarjee, Webster’s fiancée at the time of his arrest.

Panjabi joins a cast which also includes (as TVWise initially reported in May 2013, when the drama was in production) John Hannah (Spartacus), Sheridan Smith (Mrs Biggs), Scott Ainslie (EastEnders), Reece Shearsmith (Psychoville), Paul Blair (The Day of the Triffids), Kate Fleetwood (Way To Go), Kate Arneil (Jack Ryan), Alan Convy (Doctors) and Iain Cairns (Bob Servant Independent).

“I’m delighted to be commissioning another compelling factual drama from Jeff Pope and ITVS”, said ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November, who commissioned the series. “The combination of tautly written scripts and a fantastic cast makes this a really exciting addition to our 2014 drama slate”.

Penned by Jeff Pope, The Widower tells the true story of Malcolm Webster who was convicted of murdering his first wife and attempting to murder his second wife. The three-parter is produced by ITV Studios, Octagon Films and NZ Films with Kwadjo Dajan serving as the series producer and Jeff Pope serving as executive producer. The Widower was directed by Paul Whittington. ITV Studios Global Entertainment is handling international sales.
