Channel 4 is sticking with William & Virginia Masters. The channel has picked up the rights to the second season of Masters of Sex from international distributor Sony Pictures Television. It is presently unclear when the second season of Masters of Sex will premiere on Channel 4
Based on Thomas Maier’s book, Masters of Sex follows the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine and nearly a dozen appearances on Johnny Carson’s couch. The drama series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and stars Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Nicholas D’Agosto and Teddy Sears.
The pick up of the second season of Masters of Sex comes after the series launched to 1.4 million viewers for Channel 4 in its Tuesday night slot. This pick up of the show’s second season also follows recent deals inked by Channel 4 to continue their top performing imports. Other such deals have seen the company pick up the third season of Suburgatory for E4, and the fifth season of Southland, the third and fourth seasons of Shameless USA and the fifth season of The Good Wife for More4.
