UPDATE, December 23rd: Following today’s tragic death of a British serviceman on patrol in Afghanistan, BBC Three has decided to pull the Christmas Special episode of Bluestone 42 from tonight’s schedule, with an episode of Bad Education set to take its place.

PREVIOUS, December 7th: The Bluestone 42 Christmas special will premiere on BBC Three on Monday December 23rd at 10pm, it has been announced.

Created by James Cary and Richard Hurst, Bluestone 42 follows a British bomb disposal detachment serving in Afghanistan and features a group of soldiers who really enjoy being soldiers. The series was carefully researched and informed by serving and former members of the armed forces and military experts. Bluestone 42 is produced by BBC In-House Comedy Productions and stars Oliver Chris (Green Wing), Kelly Adams (Hustle), Gary Carr (Death In Paradise), Katie Lyons (Boy A), Stephen Wight (The Paradise), Jamie Quinn (Taggart), Scott Hoatson (Case Histories), Tony Gardner (Fresh Meat) and Keeno Lee Hector (Beaver Falls). Matthew Lewis, arguably best known for his role as Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter feature film series, joins the cast in the special, ahead of the show’s six episode second season.

In the special, it’s Christmas Eve and the team are joined by Nick’s new number two, Corporal Gordon House aka Towerblock (Matthew Lewis), on his first tour of duty. Captain Nick Medhurst (Oliver Chris) is tasked with getting him up to speed, but as Towerblock finished top of his class on the High Threat Course, he thinks he knows it all. He soon finds out things are different in the field, even on Christmas Day. The Taliban don’t stop for Christmas and it’s up to Nick to pull the team together.
