It’s been More4’s flagship US acquisition for the past few years and now, parent company Channel 4 has confirmed, The Good Wife is not going anywhere.
Channel 4 has reached a deal with CBS Studios International that gives More4 the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights and digital catch up rights (for 4oD) to the fifth season of the CBS drama series The Good Wife. The show’s fifth season, which is currently airing on Sunday nights on CBS in the United States, is set to premiere on More4 in early 2014.
Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife follows the daily life of Alicia Florrick as she performs her duties at the law firm of Lockhart & Gardner while trying to take care of her family. The drama series is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Julianna Margulies, Archie Panjabi, Graham Phillips, Makenzie Vega, Alan Cumming, Josh Charles, Chris Noth, Matt Czuchry and Christine Baranski. In the show’s fifth season Alicia must find a way to balance her evolving career, her new position as First Lady of Illinois and her roles as a wife and mother to her teenage children, Zach and Grace. Emboldened by the prospect of taking control of her future, Alicia bravely ventures into unknown territory.
This is the latest deal that Channel 4 has reached with an international distributor to pick up further seasons of their top performing acquisitions. Back in August, the company reached a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution to pick up the third season of Suburgatory for E4, and the fifth season of Southland & the third and fourth seasons of Shameless USA for More4. The broadcaster has also dropped underperforming series Franklin & Bash after airing the first two seasons of the Sony Pictures Television produced dramedy series.
