Hot producer Greg Berlanti – whose recent projects have include USA Network’s Political Animals and The CW’s Arrow & The Tomorrow People – has sold a new drama project to TNT.
The cable network has put into development President X, a thriller which hails from Berlanti, Golden Boy creator Nicholas Wootton, Warner Horizon Television and the WBTV based Berlanti Productions. The drama tells the story of a former president who wakes up from a yearlong coma and, now out of power, must hunt down the individual that tried to assassinate him. President X is being penned by Wootton, based on an idea by Guy Nattiv, Erez Tadmor and Alon Aranya. The executive producers are Greg Berlanti, Nicholas Wootton, Alon Aranya, Melissa Kellner Berman and Rob Golenberg.
This new buy comes as TNT is eyeing a move into year-round scripted programming. To that end, the network has recently picked up four new series: Mob City, The Last Ship, Legends and Murder In The First. TNT has also renewed its top performing series Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes, Dallas, Falling Skies and Perception; while they have cancelled King & Maxwell, Monday Mornings and Southland. The only series still hanging in the balance in the Sony Pictures Television produced Franklin & Bash which is not expected to return for a fourth season.
