On the heels of The CW’s The Originals, The Tomorrow People & Reign and Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine receiving script orders, two more freshman series have received orders for additional scripts.

NBC has ordered 3 more scripts for its mid-season drama The Night Shift, while Fox has ordered six additional scripts for its critically panned and softly rated comedy series Dads – which has already completed its initial 6 episode order. Script orders are widely considered to be sign of confidence in a new series, but do not always guarantee a corresponding episodic order.

These latest script orders come after a select few freshman series from the 2013-2014 season have earned pick ups beyond their initial series orders. Those series include Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, which has been renewed for a 13 episode second season; while NBC’s The Blacklist and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have both received traditional back nine orders. Other series have not been as successful, with ABC’s Lucky 7, CBS’ We Are Men & Fox’s Murder Police and Us & Them having already been cancelled.
