Fox International Channels (FIC) has appointed seasoned Executive Producer and production executive Christian Barcellos to the newly created position of Executive Vice President of Lifestyle and Reality Programming, TVWise has learned.
Barcellos, a 15 year industry veteran who has previously served as Vice-President of Production and Executive Producer at Bravo where he worked on the network’s successful Real Housewives franchise, will have overall responsibility for FIC’s lifestyle and reality offerings through original development, production and acquisitions. In this new role, which he will assume in November, Christian Barcellos be based out of Fox International Channel’s New York office, reporting directly to Hernan Lopez, President & Chief Executive Officer of FIC.
“Around the world, the FOX brand is synonymous with original, breakthrough content in entertainment and sports”, said Hernan Lopez, President and CEO of FIC. “Now we want to achieve that status with lifestyle and reality programming. Christian is a creative force who has helped shape the genre in the U.S. I am delighted to have him join our team.”
While Christian Barcellos added: “This is my dream job – working for a visionary company expanding into uncharted territory. It combines the kind of brand building I enjoyed at Bravo and my formative years spent outside the US, that left an indelible imprint on my creative outlook. Hernan’s pioneering leadership has grown these markets into a collective and unified force that is unrivalled; I relish the opportunity to build upon that framework to present the genre I adore, unscripted entertainment, to a global market.”
The appointment of Christian Barcellos follows on from the recent promotion of FIC exec Jo McGrath to Head of Production for Europe & Africa and comes at a time when Fox International Channels – which operates 300 international networks in 181 countries and is the global home to such series as The Walking Dead and Da Vinci’s Demons – is aggressively pursuing a push into original programming, rather than focusing solely on acquisitions. Part of that push has included the commissioning of such series as Meet The Russians, which is currently airing on FIC’s UK entertainment channel, and the recent announcements that the company is developing two high profiles scripted series for the global market: Outcast, from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman; and False Flag, an adaptation of the Israeli series Shkufim which is being developed alongside Keshet International.
