Comedy Central UK has closed a deal with CBS Studios International to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to CBS’ upcoming comedy series The Millers and We Are Men, TVWise has learned. As part of the same deal, which was brokered by Comedy Central UK’s Brad Wood and CBS Studios International’s Stephen Tague, Comedy Central has also renewed its licensing deals for both King of Queens and Rules of Engagement.
Created by Greg Garcia, The Millers tells the story of a recently divorced man whose life gets more complicated when his parents have marital problems of their own. The comedy series is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Will Arnett, Margo Martindale, Beau Bridges, JB Smoove and Mary Elizabeth Ellis.
Penned by Rob Greenberg, We Are Men follows four single guys living in a short-term apartment complex who unexpectedly find camaraderie through their many missteps in love. The comedy series is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Chris Smith, Tony Shalhoub, Jerry O’Connell and Kal Penn.
“The Millers was the stand-out comedy at this year’s LA Screenings. It’s a great fit with our current crop of US and UK sitcoms. And it has the best “Dirty Dancing” scene we’ve seen since the original movie!” said Brad Wood, Comedy Central UK’s Head of Acquisitions.
While Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President of Europe for CBS Studios International, added: “We are pleased to build on our long-term partnership with Comedy Central UK, renewing classic series like King of Queens and Rules of Engagement, along with adding fresh new shows The Millers and We Are Men to their schedule. We Are Men and The Millers will provide Comedy Central UK’s audience with award-winning casts and CBS’s customary high quality production values.”
Comedy Central UK’s deal with CBS Studios International comes after months of negotiations with the international distributor which began shortly after the LA Screenings, with word leaking out in June that the two had entered exclusive talks for The Millers and We Are Men. With these two sales, The Millers and We Are Men join a growing line up of first run series on Comedy Central UK, who recently picked up the new seasons of Two And A Half Men & Mike & Molly and are currently airing the 90 episode second season of Anger Management.
