EXCLUSIVE: Channel 4 upcoming comedy pilot from Roisin Conaty has added four actors to its cast. I’ve learned that Brendan Patricks (Downton Abbey), Felix Hayes (Friday Night Dinner), Ingrid Oliver (Watson & Oliver) and Mike Wozniak (Man Down) have been cast in the half hour broadcast pilot. They join previously announced main cast member Roisin Conaty (Man Down), who also created the comedy.

Penned by Conaty, the comedy pilot (which is being produced under the working title Roisin Conaty) tells the story of Marcella, a hapless 30 year old doing her very best to muddle through life with the help of her mates, a life coach, several shots of vodka and the driving instructor who can’t seem to avoid her. The pilot opens on her birthday and this year she’s determined to turn over a new leaf. But first she has to work out whose bed she’s in and why she’s covered in fried chicken. Then there’s the speech she’s due to give about her life as a successful actress in America. The only problem is she’s never been to America… And, to be honest, she’s never been successful. The comedy is being produced by Objective Productions with Ben Farrell and Andrew Newman serving as executive producers. Andrew Chaplin is attached to direct.

The is one of a number of potential new comedy series which are being piloted as part of Channel 4’s 4Funnies 2013 strand. Other comedies being piloted under the same strand include Raised By Wolves, which hails from Caitlin Moran & Caroline Moran and is being produced by Big Talk Productions; The Revengers, which was written by Jack & Harry Williams and is being produced by Two Brothers Pictures; and Scrotal Recall, which was penned by Tom Edge and is being produced by Misfits producer Clerkenwell Films.
