Fresh off of announcing that Law & Order: UK will be returning for a new season, ITV has announced that relative newcomer Ben Bailey-Smith (Hunted) has joined the cast of the drama as a series regular for its upcoming 8 episode eighth season. Production on season eight is slated to commence next month, with ITV eyeing a 2014 premiere.

Ben Bailey-Smith joins the cast of the veteran drama series following the departure of Paul Nicholls, who had played Detective Sergeant Sam Casey on the series for the past two season. Ben Bailey-Smith, repped by United Agents, has previously appeared on BBC One’s Hunted and recently filmed a role on Sky Living’s upcoming comedy series Give Out Girls. He has been cast as DS Joe Hawkins, Detective Sergeant Ronnie Brooks’ new partner.

Based on the long-running US series Law & Order, Law & Order: UK follows the investigation of a major crime by the Metropolitan Police Service and the subsequent prosecution undertaken by the Crown Prosecution Service. The drama series is produced by Kudos Film and Television & Wolf Films and stars Bradley Walsh, Dominic Rowan, Patterson Joseph, Georgia Taylor and Peter Davison.
