The recently renewed science-fiction series Falling Skies, which is set to air its season 3 finale this Sunday on TNT, is growing for its fourth season. I’ve confirmed that TNT has handed the series, which now has David Eick on board to replace departing showrunner Remi Aubuchon, an order for two additional episodes, bringing the total number of episodes ordered for season four to twelve.
Created by Robert Rodat & produced by Steven Speilberg, Falling Skies tells the extraordinary story about life and survival in the wake of a catastrophic alien invasion. The series centres on Tom Mason, a college professor who becomes an unlikely resistance leader in the fight for freedom. The drama series is produced by DreamWorks Television and stars Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham, Sarah Carter, Seychelle Gabriel and Mpho Koaho.
This marks the first time that Falling Skies has had a season order expanded beyond a standard 10 episode run, which has been the episode length for the show’s first three seasons. In addition, owing in no small part to the heavy special effects and lead time Falling Skies requires, the series is (at present) the only TNT series to have landed a renewal for next season. Officially the fates of King & Maxwell, Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles and Franklin & Bash are yet to be determined, but both Major Crimes and Rizzoli & Isles are locks for renewal, King & Maxwell is also looking good for renewal, while the fate of Franklin & Bash is less certain.
