Syfy is adding another pilot to its roster as it continues its aggressive push back into scripted.

The network has given a cast-contingent pilot order to 12 Monkeys, a drama series which is based on the 1995 feature film of the same name. Production on the pilot is expected to commence in November.

Penned by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, 12 Monkeys follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment are producing with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle serving as executive producers.

The pilot order for 12 Monkeys follows on from Syfy recently ordering a pilot for Dominion, a drama series based on the 2010 feature film Legion and also comes as the network is making an aggressive push back into scripted, after largely focusing on un-scripted formats for the past couple of years. Other moves in this area include handing a straight-to-series order to Ron D. Moore’s Helix, which just recently entered production. While Syfy’s President of Original Content Mark Stern recently announced his intention to have up to six scripted series airing on the network, with hopes to move back into longform as well.
