At the Edinburgh International TV Festival BBC Three Controller Zai Bennett today announced that he had commissioned a new comedy series from Bwark Production titled Siblings and renewed their newest comedy series Badults for a second season.
Created by Keith Akushie, Siblings is about the world’s worst brother and sister. Obnoxious, lazy, self-centred, underachieving, incompetent and occasionally depraved, they cause chaos and disaster wherever they go. Bwark Productions is producing with Phil Gilbert serving as the series producer and Simon Wilson serving as the executive producer. BBC Three has ordered six episodes for the show’s first season.
Created by and starring comedy trio Pappy’s, Badults (formerly known as Secret Dude Society) follows Tom, Ben and Matthew who are living out the pact that they made as kids; to live together when they’re all grown up. But in truth they simply can’t act grown up because they are bad at being adults. They are badults. It very quickly becomes clear that this isn’t a conventional flat-share. Instead it’s a springboard for a series of absorbing, unexpected schemes: transforming the flat into a pop up restaurant, launching a new dance anthem into the charts or re-enacting the French Revolution. The comedy series is produced by Comedy Unit and also stars Emer Kenny (Pramface) and Jack Docherty (Absolutely).
The renewal of Badults comes after the series proved to be a hit with BBC Three audiences. With the series premiere drawing a consolidated audience of 2.1 million viewers. “I’m thrilled we will be returning next year with a second series of Badults on BBC Three”, said BBC Commissioning Executive Kristian Smith. “The distinct silly sense of fun that Ben, Matthew and Tom create is an absolute delight and with its larger sensibilities, it sits beautifully in our mix of comedy on BBC Three.”
