MTV has handed pilot orders to two new scripted comedy projects Faking It and Happy Land, the network announced at the Television Critics Association 2013 Summer Press Tour.
Created by Dana Min Goodman & Julia Wolov and developed by Hart of Dixie scribe Carter Covington, Faking It revolves around two best friends who will do almost anything to fit in and be popular in high school, including pretending to be something they are not.
Happy Land was created by Ben Epstein and is described as a soapy teen comedy which explores the underbelly of one of the country’s most popular theme parks and those who work there. Lucy, a cynical teen whose mom makes a living as a fairy tale princess, faces the realities of growing up and falling in love while living in a make believe world. The executive producers are Neil Meron and Craig Zadan.
In addition, the network has also announced that they have hired Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin to pen the network’s upcoming pilot Scream, which was announced back in April. Based on the Scream feature film series, MTV’s hour-long pilot will reinvent the successful horror comedy franchise that spawned three sequels and unleashed “Ghostface” to a legion of unsuspecting fans. Dimension Films are producing with DiGa Vision.
