Mira Sorvino is heading to Santa Barbara. The Academy-award winner has joined the cast of USA Network’s Psych for its upcoming eighth (and likely final) season in a multi-episode arc, TVWise has learned.
Sorvino has been cast as Betsy Brannigan, Santa Barbara Police Department’s newest head detective whoe is described as incredibly sweet, adorably reserved and yet certified badass. Brannigan’s record for taking down ruthless criminals is rivaled only by her skills in sparkly craft making, and her seemingly bubbly demeanor can turn on a dime once she straps in the dual-wielded Colt .45s. She’s a scrapbooking, cat loving, crime-fighting machine. Sorvino will first appear in the season premiere.
Created by Steve Franks, Psych follows the daily lives of Shawn Spencer and his best friend Gus as they perform their duties as consultants for the Santa Barbara Police Department. The only hitch is that everyone (except for Gus and his father Henry) believes that Shawn is a psychic detective, when in truth he is not and often requires the help of Henry and Gus to close the cases he is assigned. The drama series is produced by Universal Cable Productions and stars James Roday, Dulé Hill, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson and Corbin Bernsen. Cast member Maggie Lawson will only be appearing in a limited number of episodes in season 8 as she is a series regular on ABC’s new series Back In The Game.
