Cory Monteith, who has played Finn Hudson on the Fox series Glee since it premiered in 2009, was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on Saturday. He was 31. Vancouver police are investigating the death buy say that, while the cause of death was not immediately apparent, no foul play is suspected.
In a statement the Glee producers, Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox Television said: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
Monteith’s tragic passing comes after he had a long battle with substance abuse, dating back to when he was a teenager. This past March the actor entered rehab, forcing Glee to write him out of the finale. He subsequently completed the program and was seen with co-star Lea Michele at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles. Production on the fifth season of Glee has yet to get underway and it is currently unclear how it will be affected by Monteith’s untimely death.
