ABC Family has cancelled its drama series The Lying Game after airing two seasons of the series, TVWise has confirmed.
The Lying Game was created by Sara Shepard and follows identical twins Emma Becker and Sutton Mercer, who were separated at birth and have led very different lives, each oblivious to the other’s existence until circumstances bring them back together. Yearning for the family she never had, Emma agrees to help Sutton with her plan to find their birth parents by stepping into her life for a few days, setting in motion a web of secrecy and lies. The drama series is produced by Alloy Entertainment & Warner Horizon Television and stars Alexandra Chando, Andy Buckley, Blair Redford, Sharon Pierre-Louis, Kirsten Prout, Alice Greczyn, Allie Gonino and Helen Slater.
Series star Alexandra Chando initially broke the news on Instagram saying: “To our awesome #lyinggame fans, thank you for these two amazing seasons. Unfortunately, Abc Family has decided not to bring us back for a third season. We so wanted to do 10 more for you guys! Thanks for your support and keep up with the cast to see what’s next for us! Xx”
The cancellation has been expected for some time. Between some less than stellar ratings, executive changes at the network, and the premiere of higher rated series such as The Fosters and Twisted, the odds of the series returning has always been considered a long shot. Meanwhile, the fate of fellow bubble series Bunheads is still up in the air as ABC Family has confirmed that they have yet to reach a decision on renewal or cancellation.
