UKTV has inked a video-on-demand deal with YouView to offer a 7 day catch up service for its Dave, Really and Yesterday channels. This move to launch these services on YouView, which follows on from UKTV launching their own on-demand services for their free-to-air channels last year, marks the first such direct agreement between UKTV & YouView and the first time that UKTV has offered a catch-up service that is purpose-built for TV.
Of the three UKTV owned and operated channels that will offer catch up viewing via YouView, Dave will the be the first to launch this July. The catch up service will be available through a Dave-branded on demand portal and through YouView’s scroll back programme. Dara O Briain: School of Hard Sums, Ross Noble’s Freewheeling, Dave Gorman’s Modern Life is Goodish, Alexander Armstrong’s Big Ask, Storage Hunters, Lizard Lick Towing and Russell Howard’s Good News are amongst the many shows that will be available to YouView customers. The catch up services for Really and Yesterday are expected to launch by the end of 2013.
“The UKTV network currently reaches over 42 million viewers a month and this agreement with YouView will make our award-winning programmes and channel brands available to even more viewers”, said UKTV CEO Darren Childs. “Providing a catch-up service for our free-to-air channels on YouView is an important step for us, ensuring we give viewers the ‘anytime, anywhere’ access to our channels and programming that they want.”
While Richard Halton, CEO of YouView, added: “We are pleased to welcome UKTV to our collection of on demand TV players. YouView is currently the fastest growing TV platform in the UK and we know that offering quality on demand content, from iconic channels such as Dave, Really and Yesterday, is key to giving our customers a great TV experience and makes our scroll back programme guide even more compelling.”
