LOVEFiLM Picks Up UK Streaming Rights To The CW’s ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’

This one very nearly slipped by undetected. I’ve just learned that LOVEFiLM has acquired the UK streaming rights to The CW’s short-lived drama series Emily Owens, M.D. All 13 episodes of the series are now available to stream for members of the Amazon owned OTT service.

Created by Jennie Snyder Urman, Emily Owens, M.D. revolves around a newly qualified doctor who learns that the hospital that she works at is just like her high school. The drama series was produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television and starred Mamie Gummer, Justin Hartley, Michael Rady, Kelly J. McCreary, Aja Naomi King and Necar Zadegan.

According to one source, this acquisition was part of a larger deal inked with CBS Studios International which was announced earlier this week and also covered titles such as The Good Wife, Blue Bloods and Dexter – but for some reason the pick up of Emily Owens was not mentioned in the release. With this acquisition, LOVEFiLM is continuing its push into exclusive first run content. The service previously picked up the exclusive UK rights to History’s drama series Vikings and is expected to pick up at least one new entry from the 2013-2014 season.

TVWise’s Acquisitions Scorecard has been updated with this new information.
