LOVEFiLM has closed a deal with Fox International Channels (FIC) to secure the exclusive UK streaming rights to AMC’s zombie drama series The Walking Dead, which until now has been unavailable on any OTT service in the UK.

Under the terms of their deal with FIC, the six episode first season is immediately available to stream for members of the Amazon owned service, while the show’s second and third seasons will be made available within the next 18 months. FIC’s UK channel FOX retains the exclusive first window pay TV rights to the series and plans to air the fourth season of The Walking Dead later this year.

Based on the graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead was developed for television by Frank Darabont and follows a group of people, led by deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes, who are attempting  to survive after an outbreak has led to the rise of the undead (known colloquially as walkers). The drama series is produced by AMC Studios and stars Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus and Lauren Cohan.

“Securing the exclusive streaming rights to The Walking Dead is another exciting development for us”, said Chris Bird, Director of Film Strategy at LOVEFiLM. “It is seriously impressive that the show has become one of the most-watched drama series in basic US cable history, and a real testament to its quality. We are thrilled to bring this great content to our members, especially as we are the only subscription service in the country to do so.”
