24 veteran Jon Cassar has joined Fox’s upcoming event series reboot 24: Live Another Day. He will serve as a director and executive producer on the 12 episode limited series which is currently being targeted for a Summer 2014 launch on Fox. Cassar has a long history with 24 and is one of several 24 veterans that Howard Gordon and Fox are hoping to bring on board 24: Live Another Day. He initially directed 2 episodes of the show’s first season and in the years that followed he was elevated to producer and then executive producer, before leaving the series at the end of the seventh season. Cassar’s other credits include Continuum, Terra Nova and Touch.
24: Live Another Day is being written by Howard Gordon & David Fury and will be set several years after the events depicted in season 8. Across the 12 episodes, spanning 24 hours, former Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer will be called upon to once again save the day. The limited event series, which Fox said could be followed by additional such entries in the coming years, is being produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment and Teakwood Lane Productions. At present the only confirmed cast member is Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, with Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer and Kiefer Sutherland serving as executive producers.
“I’m very happy to be renewing my relationship with the 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine family and am excited to call ‘action!’ again on the set of the resurrected 24,” said Jon Cassar. “Considering I was not involved in season eight, this new 24 event series gives me the chance for closure on a show that is very important to me.”
While Executive Producer Howard Gordon added: “Jon was a profoundly integral part of 24 creatively and culturally. It doesn’t feel like it would be 24 without him, and we’re all just really thrilled to be working with him again.”
