EXCLUSIVE: The third season of TNT’s drama series Franklin & Bash premieres on June 19th in the United States, but UK fans may have a lot longer to wait. We first reported several months ago that the future of the Sony Pictures Television produced drama was in doubt and now, my sources say, it is unlikely to return to E4.
Created by Kevin Fall and Bill Chais, Franklin & Bash follows the exploits of Jared Franklin and Peter Bash, two street wise lawyers who, after defeating the well known law firm of Infeld & Daniels, are recruited to work at the firm to boost their litigation department. The series is produced by Four Sycamore Productions, Left Coast Productions & FanFare Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television and stars Breckin Meyer, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Malcolm McDowell, Reed Diamond, Kumail Nanjiani, Dana Davis and Heather Locklear.
According to my sources, Channel 4 acquisitions executives have decided not to acquire the rights to the third season of TNT’s buddy legal drama from international distributor Sony Pictures Television for its E4 channel. Officially Channel 4 reps have stated that “no decision has been taken at this time” regarding the future of the series, but a trusted Channel 4 insider tells me that a decision was made under former Head of Acquisitions Gill Hay not to acquire the third season of the series from Sony. And while that source says that the decision could be re-evaluated under their new acquisitions team, a reversal of that previous decision is “unlikely” as, given its ratings performance, especially when stacked up against better performing shows such as New Girl, Revenge and The Big Bang Theory, it didn’t seem “worth the cost” to acquire future seasons of the series from SPT.
TVWise’s Acquisitions Scorecard has been updated with this new information.
