EXCLUISVE: BBC One and Origin Pictures have found the director for their upcoming three-part adaptation of the P.D. James novel Death Comes To Pemberley. My sources tell me that acclaimed director Dan Percival has signed on to the helm the three part drama. Percival has had a long and distinguished career, having directed such drama series as The Ghost Squad, The State Within and Waking The Dead. He was also instrumental (alongside co-executive producer Frank Spotnitz) in the re-tooling of action series Strike Back when HBO’s sister channel Cinemax boarded the series for its second season as a co-producer.
Based on the P.D. James bestselling novel which was first published in 2011, Death Comes To Pemberley is a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The drama is set six years after the events of Pride & Prejudice and centers on Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy as they find themselves in the midst of a murder mystery plot. The three part serial was written by Juliette Towhidi. Origin Pictures are producing with Polly Hill, David Thompson and Ed Rubin serving as executive producers. Casting for the drama is currently underway, with production slated to commence by July. Word is that the drama will form part of BBC One’s 2013 Christmas line up.
