Homicide: Life On The Street alum Melissa Leo has joined the cast of Fox’s upcoming 10 part event series Wayward Pines. Leo has been cast as Nurse Pam, the intense, unpredictable nurse who first takes care of Ethan when he wakes up in the Wayward Pines hospital. But it soon seems Pam may be more interested in harming than healing. She and Ethan grow into deadly rivals and her role in the town of Wayward Pines proves much deeper than it first appears. Leo joins previously announced cast member Matt Dillon (There’s Something About Mary) who plays lead character Ethan Burke.
Based on Blake Crouch’s best-selling novel Pines, Wayward Pines comes from M. Night Shyamalan and follows US Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) as he arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan’s investigation only turns up more questions. What’s wrong with Wayward Pines? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive. Based on a spec-script written by Chad Hodge, Wayward Pines is produced by FX Productions with Shyamalan, Hodge, Donald De Line and Ashwin Rajan serving as executive producers.
Wayward Pines is one of two limited event series that Fox has on tap for 2014, with the other being the 12 episode 24: Live Another Day. Both entries come months after Fox teamed with FX to get back into the long-form game. They began on that track in October 2012 by the formation of a long-form division based out of FX Productions and hired former HBO exec Gina Balian to run it. Fox also has a number of event series still in active development including The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, Shogun and Blood Brothers.
