EXCLUSIVE: BBC One’s newest drama series By Any Means, which just recently entered production, is adding two guest stars to its 6 episode first season. I’ve learned that both Josef Altin (Game of Thrones) and Bessie Cursons (Doctors) have landed roles on the series. Created by a writing team comprised of Tony Jordan, Richard Zajdlic, James Payne, Jeff Povey and Richard Lazarus, By Any Means has been described as a “gritty police drama” which follows police officer Jack Quinn who runs a clandestine police department that, when the legal system fails, go to any lengths to bring the criminal elite to justice. Quinn’s shadowy and brilliant team will go about their business, exploiting weaknesses, weaving a web of cunning and deception that leads the unwary target into the arms of justice. The series is produced by Red Planet Pictures and stars Warren Brown, Elliot Knight, Shelley Conn, Gina McKee and Andrew Lee Potts.

Sky Living’s recently confirmed six episode comedy series Give Out Girls is adding a member to its cast. According to my sources, Alex Carter (Starlings) has landed a guest role in the series. I’m hearing rumblings that it may be a recurring role, but I’ve been unable to confirm that. Created by Tony MacMurray and Hatty Ashdown, Give Out Girls is set in the world of promotions and follows a group of four girls (and a couple of guys) who go out into the streets at 7am, dressed as light bulbs, giving members of the public items that they don’t want. The comedy series is being produced by Big Talk Productions and Popper Pictures and stars Kerry Howard, Diana Vickers, Miranda Hennessy, Cariad Llloyd and Tracy-Ann Oberman. Chloe Thomas is directing.

Finally, the Sky1/Cinemax action series Strike Back is adding a duo. I hear that both Sara Carver (Yes, Prime Minister) and Tereza Srbova (Siren) have landed guest roles on the show’s fourth season (the third for Cinemax), with both being recurring ones. Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Ryan, Strike Back follows the exploits of Section 20, an elite counter-terrorism unit as it spans the globe to stop potential threats, often behind enemy lines. The drama series is produced by Left Bank Pictures in association with BSkyB & HBO/Cinemax and stars Phillip Winchester, Sullivan Stapleton, Rhona Mitra, Michelle Lukes, Liam Garrigan, Robson Green, Martin Clunes, Dougray Scott and Milauna Jackson. In the show’s new season, which is currently in production, counter-terrorism unit Section 20 pursues a deadly terrorist network from Colombia to Beirut to Europe, uncovering deadly plots that reach to the West.
