MTV’s Viva channel has announced that they have picked up the rights to the first season of NBC’s comedy series Whitney and will start airing the series from Monday April 22nd at 10pm. The show’s first season has previously been broadcast in UK by Comedy Central, who continue to hold the first run rights to the series and will be airing the second season of Whitney later this year.
Whitney was created by Whitney Cummings and follows the lives of Whitney and Alex, a happily unmarried couple who have been together for three years and have absolutely no intention of tying the knot. The comedy series stars Cummings as a fictionalised version of herself, Chris D’Elia as Alex Miller, Maulik Pancholy as Neal, Zoe Lister-Jones as Lily, Rhea Seehorn as Roxanne and Dan O’Brien as Mark. Following a so-so rated first season of 24 episodes, NBC renewed the series for a second season back in May, which wrapped its run on NBC last month..
In the show’s premiere episode Whitney, after attending yet another friend’s wedding, realizes that she and Alex are dangerously close to relationship boredom. Determined not to let that happen, Whitney consults her close circle of opinionated girlfriends — including Lily and Roxanne — and then snaps into action. A few Awkward sexy costumes and one botched seductive evening later, the couple ends up in the emergency room. Even so, Whitney and Alex realize that while their relationship might not be perfect on paper, they really do love each other — and that works for them
