History has renewed its first original scripted series Vikings for a second season of 10 episodes. set to air in 2014.
Vikings was created by Michael Hirst and is a series high on adventure, exploration, conflict, warfare and bloodshed – for these were extreme times – but, at its heart, it will also be a family saga. It follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, a historical figure, and the greatest hero of his age – and the gripping sagas of Ragnar’s band of Viking brothers and his family – as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. The drama series stars Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Travis Fimmel (The Beast), Jessalyn Gilsig (Glee), Gustaf Skarsgard (The Way Back), Clive Standen (Camelot) and Katheryn Winnick (Stand Up Guys).
The drama series has been a ratings winner for History and consistenly ranks as cable’s number 1 rated program in its Sunday 10pm time-slot. Over the course of its first season, Vikings has averaged 5.0 million total viewers, 2.2 million Adults 25-54 and 1.9 Adults 18-49. This past Sunday, episode five delivered 4.7 million total viewers, 2.2 million Adults 25-54 and 1.7 million Adults 18-49; up 4% among total viewers and 5% among Adults 25-54 from last week.
