Channel 5 has closed a deal with One Three Media to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to History’s five part mini-series The Bible. This is the second of History’s mini-series to be acquired by Channel 5 for broadcast in the UK, with the other being Hatfields & McCoys; which was acquired by the free-to-air broadcaster last year. The Bible is set to air on Channel 5 later this year.
From reality producer Mark Burnett, The Bible is a five part/ten hour docudrama series which re-tells famous stories as they unfold and reveals new insights into these iconic characters in context of the Bible. The series will feature some of the most famous stories ever written from Noah’s Ark and the Exodus to Daniel in the Lion’s Den to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The mini-series was produced by Lightworkers Media and Hearst Entertainment & Syndication.
Speaking of The Bible, Channel 5’s Acquisitions & Channel Manager Marie-Claire Dunlop, who brokered the deal with international distributor One Three Media, said: “The show has been nothing short of a sensation, watched by millions of people in the states. To have it on Channel 5 is incredibly exciting – these are stories that can’t fail to draw you in.”
While C. Scot Cru, Senior Vice-President of International at One Three Media, added: “Channel 5 has a long history of bringing the most compelling series to the UK audience. We think 5 is the perfect home for The Bible and look forward to the show drawing a huge audience like it has in the US and around the world.”
