A+E Networks UK has announced that they will be launching H2, the sister channel to History, in the UK on Saturday May 4th. The channel promises to put history in the context of today’s world, presenting information in innovative ways, while offering viewers a deeper perspective of, and deeper connections to, the world around them. H2 will be available on Sky (channel 531) and Virgin Media (channel 236).
H2 will feature a mix of acquisitions and original commissions and offer factual programming across numerous genres, including military history, ancient history, modern history, science and technology. Amongst the programmes that will air on H2 when it launches in May is Time Team America, Serial Killer Earth and Beast Legends. The channel will also feature a dedicated Military Zone on Wednesday evenings and every night from 11pm. H2 launched in the United States in September 2011 and is the number 1 emerging entertainment network in US cable amongst the Adults 25-54 demographic, delivering double digit year-on-year growth in 2012.
“H2 is a natural extension of History with its own unique voice, and we are very excited about the launch in the UK,” said Dean Possenniskie, Managing Director, of EMEA for A+E Networks. “Since its debut, the network has demonstrated amazing success in the US and we are confident we will see the same results in the UK.”
While Tom Davidson, Managing Director of A+E Networks UK, added: “H2 has been a huge success in the US where it has achieved fantastic ratings and I am delighted that we can now offer the channel to our audiences in the UK. H2 allows us to expand on the quality content available on our flagship History channel by representing the very heart of the History brand as well as offering viewers more information, more facts and even more entertainment.”
