Life of Pi director Ang Lee, who just recently won the Academy Award for Best Director, has signed on to helm FX’s one-hour drama pilot Tyrant. The pilot, which is set to enter production this summer, will be Lee’s first project since Life of Pi and his television directorial debut.
Created by Gideon Raff and developed by Howard Gordon & Craig Wright, Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. The drama is being produced by Gordon’s production company Teakwood Lane Productions in association with Fox 21 and FX Productions. The executive producers are Ang Lee, Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff and Craig Wright.
“The fact that the brilliant Ang Lee has signed on to direct his first project for television speaks to the extraordinary nature of ‘Tyrant,’” said Bert Salke, President of Fox 21. “Ang Lee, Gideon Raff, Craig Wright and Howard Gordon are master storytellers at the height of their powers, and the material is incredible. We can’t wait to get started.”
