ITV4 has closed a deal with Endemol Worldwide Distribution to acquire the free-to-air rights to AMC’s western drama series Hell On Wheels. The deal covers all three seasons of the show (30 episodes) with ITV4 eyeing a Summer premiere for the series. The first two seasons of the show have previously been broadcast in the UK by TCM, who continue to hold the first window rights to the series.
Hell On Wheels revolves around Cullen Bohannon, a former confederate soldier who travels west to the construction site of the first transcontinental rail road. However, Bohannon’s journey is not that of a former soldier looking for work. He is on a mission to avenge the death of his wife and son who were murdered by Union soldiers, whom he has tracked to the construction of Union Pacific’s railroad. The drama series stars Anson Mount, Common, Colm Meaney, Dominique McElligott, Tom Noonan, Ediie Spears, Ben Ester and Phil Burke.
Speaking of the acquistion, ITV’s Head of Acquired Series Sasha Breslau, who brokered the deal with Endemol, said “We are delighted to have this intriguing, superbly produced drama on ITV4 – Hell On Wheels is a compelling, contemporary Western and we hope our viewers will enjoy the journey.”
