BBC Two has given the green-light to a one-hour special documentary about the life and career of Irish comedian Dave Allen.
Titled Dave Allen Night, the documentary will feature rare archive footage and interviews with Allen’s family, friends and colleagues. Interviewees will include Dame Maggie Smith, Val Doonican, Stephen Frears and Steven Berkoff, archive interviews with Bill Cotton conducted shortly before he passed away and the cast and crew of Dave Allen At Large. Vera Productions is producing the documentary with Geoff Atkinson serving as the executive producer. Dave Allen Night was commissioned by BBC Two Controller Janice Hadlow and Gilly Hall & Mark Linsey from BBC Entertainment Commissioning.
Speaking of the documentary, Gilly Hall, the BBC’s Entertainment Commissioning Executive, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the life and work of the inspired and extraordinary comedian, Dave Allen on BBC Two. He was an entertainer ahead of his time and an acclaimed actor too, who has not been seen on British Television for many years.”
