The 12 episode third season of The Killing will kick off on AMC with a two-hour premiere on Sunday June 2nd at 8/7c, it has been announced.

Based on the Danish series Forbrydelsen, The Killing was developed for American television by Veena Sud and followed a police investigation in Seattle into the murder of teenager Rosie Larsen. The drama series was produced by Fox Television Studios and starred Mireille Enos, Billy Campbell, Joel Kinnaman, Michelle Forbes, Brent Sexton, Kristin Lehman, Eric Ladin, Brendan Sexton and Jamie Anne Allman. After being cancelled last year, the series was eventually renewed for a third season following a deal between FTVS and AMC.

The show’s third season is set a year after closing the Rosie Larsen case and Sarah Linden is no longer a detective. But when her ex-partner Stephen Holder’s search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden, she is drawn back into the life she thought she’d left behind. Owing to the backlash that the series incurred by not revealing the murderer of Rosie Larsen at the end of season 1, AMC and Fox Television Studios have announced that by the conclusion of the 12th episode of season 3, this new case will be solved. Returning for season 3 is Mireille Enos as Sarah Linden and Joel Kinnaman as Stephen Holder. They will be joined by new cast members Peter Sarsgaard, Elias Koteas and Amy Seimetz.
