Sky Living has closed a deal with Gaumont International Television to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to NBC’s mid-season drama series Hannibal. The show’s 13 episode first season is set to premiere in April, shortly behind its debut on NBC.
Developed for NBC by Bryan Fuller (who was also behind the network’s failed Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane), Hannibal is a contemporary take on the characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel and as such will revolve around FBI Special Agent Will Graham and his mentor, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The drama series, produced by Gaumont International Television, stars Hugh Dancy as William Graham, Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Caroline Dhavernas as Dr. Alana Bloom and Lara Jean Chorostecki as Freddie Lounds, with Laurence Fishburne appearing in a recurring role. Notable guest stars include Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Lance Henriksen (Millennium) and Eddie Izzard (Mockingbird Lane).
Speaking of the acquisition, Antonia Hurford-Jones, Director of Sky Living, said: “We’re delighted to be adding Hannibal to our line-up of quality US drama on Sky Living. We know this is something our customers really love and we’re committed to bringing them the best the US has to offer. This series is perfect for Sky Living because it will appeal not only to our core female audience, but to a shared one too.”
