A re-boot of Gerry Anderson’s popular Thunderbirds series has been given a greenlight and will air on ITV and CITV in 2015. The new series, titled Thunderbirds Are Go!, has been given an order for 26 episodes and will be produced by ITV Studios, New Zealand’s Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop (The Lord of the Rings). ITV Studios Global Entertainment is handling international distribution.
This remake of the popular series from the 1960’s which followed International Rescue, a family organisation run by the Tracy’s who did what was necessary to save those in danger, will use a combination of CGI animation and live-action models and will pay tribute to the legacy of model locations from the classic series. The lead writer is Rob Hoegee (Ben 10). The executive producers are Estelle Hughes for ITV Studios, Giles Ridge for ITV Studios Global Entertainment and Richard Taylor and Andrew Smith for Pukeko Pictures.
Head of Programming for CITV Jamila Metran, who commissioned the reboot, said: “Thunderbirds Are Go! will be a hugely exciting new show for the CITV audience.
