GirlsIt’s been one of the worst kept secrets of recent memory, but HBO has now formally announced that they have renewed comedy series Girls for a third season of 12 episodes.

Girls was created by Lena Dunham and follows the day to day lives of Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna who are trying to figure life out. They’ve been living in New York for a couple of years, but they’re still not sure what they want – from boys, from each other, from themselves. And things aren’t getting any clearer. The comedy series stars Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver.

The comedy series just recently started airing its second season in the Sunday night-slot on HBO. According to partial data, the premiere episode of season 2 has already exceeded a gross audience of 3.8 million viewers. News of the show’s renewal first leaked late last year and was confirmed by Lena Dunham who spoke about season 3 on Alec Baldwin’s podcast earlier this week. Production on season 3 is set to commence in March.
