EXCLUSIVE: Former Law & Order executive producer Rene Balcer has found a UK home. I’ve learned that the recently re-branded FOX has acquired the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Balcer’s upcoming English language drama series Jo, which is being produced for France’s TF1. TVWise reported earlier this month that chatter was that the series would land at the broadcaster and I’ve now confirmed with my sources that FOX UK does hold the rights to the series as part of a multi-territory deal inked by parent company Fox International Channels back in October 2012.
Created by René Balcer, Jo is an English language series which follows Jo St-Clair, a veteran detective in Paris’ elite Criminal Brigade, who tackles the city’s most challenging murder cases. Brilliant and brutal, St-Clair matches wits with pathological killers to solve a series of shocking murders. St-Clair is partnered with rookie detective Bayard, a good-looking college-educated cop whose by-the-book approach stands in marked contrast to St-Clair’s lone-wolf methods. Supervising them is Commissaire Dormont, a tough-minded boss with a long tumultuous history with St-Clair. Rounding up St-Clair’s team are the young sharp-tongued coroner Angelique Alassane and the eccentric but gifted forensic expert Nicolas Normand. The one-hour close-ended crime series is produced by Atlantique Productions in association with Red Arrow International and stars Jean Reno, Jill Hennessy, Tom Austen, Orla Brady, Heida Reed, Chris Brazier, Celyn Jones and Wunmi Mosaku.
