National Geographic’s two-hour TV movie Seal Team Six: The Raid On Osama Bin Laden is coming to the UK and its getting a new title as well. I’ve learned that distributor StudioCanal has opted to give the project (now titled Codename Geronimo: The Hunt For Osama Bin Laden) – which was originally envisioned as a feature film – a limited theatrical release here in the UK on December 14th. For those who would rather see the title on TV screens, I’m being told that StudioCanal will also be releasing the title on DVD on Christmas Eve and, per the distributor’s licensing agreement with BSkyB, the film will be made available on Sky Box Office that same day.
Directed by John Stockwell, Codename Geronimo: The Hunt For Osama Bin Laden chronicles the operation conducted by Seal Team Six, backed by CIA intelligence, that led to the raid on a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan and ultimately the death of Osama Bin Laden. The events portrayed in the film were vetted by a team of experts including a recently retired Navy Seal, a top CIA operative and one of the most renowned bin Laden historians. While some aspects of the characterizations have been dramatized for creative reasons, the core story is an accurate portrayal of an event that ended the longest manhunt in America history. Codename Geronimo: The Hunt For Osama Bin Laden stars Cam Gigandet, Anson Mount, Freddy Rodriquez, Xzibit, Kathleen Robertson, Eddie Kay Thomas and Kenneth Miller, with Robert Knepper and William Fichtner.
