Back in September TVWise broke the news that BBC Three had ordered a two hour drama titled One Day Like This which revolved around the events following a fatal car crash. At that time we revealed that the project has been written by Northern Irish TV writer Terry Cafolla and was being produced by the Endemol owned Darlow Smithson Productions, with Nick Pitt serving as producer and Sarah Walker directing. In a subsequent report we also revealed that Sacha Parkinson (Coronation Street), Lily Loveless (Skins), Georgia Henshaw (Waterloo Road), Josh Bolt (Last Tango In Halifax), Lewis Rainer (Dani’s House) & Darcy Isa (Waterloo Road) had all been cast in drama, which was shot on location in Scotland. BBC Three made all of that official today by announcing the commission of the two part drama and revealing that One Day Like This is set to premiere in 2013. BBC Three’s press release follows below….

BBC Three commissions new factual-based drama

BBC Three today announced that it has commissioned a new two-part, factual-based drama to be produced by leading independent production company Darlow Smithson (DSP).

The two-part drama series, entitled One Day Like This (w/t) has been commissioned in conjunction with BBC Learning.

Inspired by real-life events, One Day Like This (w/t) dramatizes a fatal car crash that devastates a small community. Set in a small English town, the series tells the story of the collision from the point of view of the people involved, and is based on extensive interviews and research.

Starring Sasha Parkinson (Coronation Street), Georgina Henshaw (Waterloo Road), Lewis Rainer (Dani’s House) and Lily Loveless (Skins), the series will launch on BBC Three in 2013.

Zai Bennett, Controller, BBC Three says: “One Day Like This is a riveting and emotional narrative which was inspired by real life events. It demonstrates BBC Three’s unique role to produce thought-provoking drama specifically for young adults.”

One Day Like This (w/t) has been meticulously researched by our team and developed into a powerful and thought-provoking drama.”
