Goodbye FX UK hello Fox. Fox International Channels has announced that as of January 11th 2013 FX UK will be re-branding as FOX. The move to re-brand as FOX comes after record breaking audience figures earlier in 2012 and marks a “natural evolution” of the brand in becoming a bigger TV destination dedicated to excellence in entertainment. Under the new name, FOX will continue to provide UK pay-TV viewers with exceptional, bold and edgy first-run series but also broaden its schedule into other genres to reflect an ever-expanding audience.
FOX will continue to provide the current line up of first-run programming offered by FX UK which includes The Walking Dead, NCIS, Dexter, True Blood, American Horror Story and the recently acquired Da Vinci’s Demons. In addition, the channel has acquired a roster of new programming for its re-brand in January, which emphasises less of a focus on gritty drama and more on general entertainment with the introduction of new comedy series. Amongst the new shows acquired for the launch of FOX in January is Louie (as TVWise initially reported in late July), chat show The Ricki Lake Show, Men At Work and the second season of The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret. All these show’s will also be made on offer via BSkyB’s Sky Go and on-demand services.
Jason Thorp, Executive Vice-President of Content for Europe and Managing Director (UK & Africa) at Fox International Channels UK, said: “FOX has always been behind the spirit and success of FX. Now is the time for us to reward viewers by adding even more unmissable new content under a brand name recognised globally for delivering smart entertainment with an edge.”
While Jon Simkin, Director of Channels & Operations, at BSkyB, added: “FX is a channel that our customers value and we are confident they will continue to respond to the high-quality range of US drama and comedy as it becomes FOX. We’re delighted to also offer our customers FOX on the move through Sky Go and on demand.”
