ITV1 has renewed drama series Doc Martin for a sixth season of 8 episodes. The show’s sixth season is slated to air in 2013 and joins recently renewed series Law & Order: UK, Scott & Bailey, Vera and Whitechapel.

Created by Dominic Minghella, Doc Martin follows the daily life of a cantankerous GP in the village of Port Wenn, Cornwall. The drama series is produced by Buffalo Pictures and stars Martin Clunes, Caroline Catz, Eileen Atkins, Ian McNeice, John Marquez and Jessica Ransom. Production on season 6 is due to commence in early 2013, on location in Port Isaac, Cornwall.

“I’m thrilled to be going back to the beautiful North Cornish coast to shoot series six of Doc Martin,” said Martin Clunes. “Our challenge this season will be to force Louisa and the doctor to live together with Baby James which as far as I can see has disaster written all over it. And then there’s the dog and Dame Eileen but not necessarily in that order!”
