HBO Renews ‘Boardwalk Empire’ For Fourth Season

HBO has renewed their period drama series Boardwalk Empire for a fourth season, which is set to air in 2013.

Boardwalk Empire was created by Terence Winter and follows the exploits of Nucky Thompson and his criminal enterprise in Atlantic City in the 1920′s. The drama series stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Jack Huston, Stephen Graham, Michael Stuhlbarg, Vincent Piazza, Paul Sparks, Michael Kenneth Williams, Gretchen Mol and Bobby Cannavale.

The renewal comes only three episodes into the show’s third season, which is currently airing on Sunday nights on HBO. Last season, Boardwalk Empire averaged 8.6 million viewers an episode. To date, the first episode of the current season has already gathered 7.2 million viewers and will continue to grow via additional telecasts, DVR playback and HBO On Demand and HBO GO.

Speaking of the renewal of Boardwalk Empire, Michael Lombardo, President of HBO Programming, said: “Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their outstanding team continue to produce a stunning show thatnever fails to surprise and entertain. “We are excited to bring this unique series back for a fourth season.”
