EXCLUSIVE: BBC Three/BBC In House has locked down the main cast for upcoming comedy series Bluestone 42. I have just learned that Tony Gardner (Fresh Meat), Kelly Adams (Hustle) and Oliver Chris (Green Wing) have all been cast in the eight part series, which is currently in production in South Africa. They will be joined on Bluestone 42 by series regulars Stephen Wight (Threesome) and Scott Hoatson (Case Histories).
Bluestone 42 (pronounced bluestone four-two) is a single-camera comedy created by James Cary and Richard Hurst. The eight episode series follows a British bomb disposal detachment serving in Afghanistanand features a group of soldiers who really enjoy being soldiers. The comedy will take the audience from moments of intense action to the fractious camaraderie as the unit waits around for their next tasking. BBC In-House Comedy Productions is producing, with Michelle Farr serving as producer and Iain B. MacDonald on board as series director.
TVWise reported back in September that Bluestone 42 had been picked up to series by BBC Three with an eight episode order. The comedy series, which was initally developed under the title IED, has been in development for the better part of two years and despite initally receiving a pilot order in 2011, that pilot was never shot. Instead the project bypassed the traditional pilot-to-series model with BBC Three opting to order additional scripts, before recently handing Bluestone 42 a series order.
