Syfy UK Acquires Rights To ‘The River’

Exclusive: I have just learned that Syfy UK has closed a deal with Disney Media Distribution to acquire the first run UK broadcast rights to ABC’s short-lived drama series The River. I’m also being told that the show’s eight episode first season is set to premiere on Syfy UK in October.

Created by Oren Peli and Michael R. Perry, The River picks up shortly after Dr Emmet Cole disappears while exploring the Amazon. It is then that Cole’s wife (Leslie Hope) and son (Joe Anderson) put together a small search party to search for the Doctor in the depths of the Amazon, without knowing if he is alive or even what happened to him. Only eight episodes were produced for the show’s first season and The River was cancelled by ABC this past May due to low ratings. This is not the first time that the series has been made available to viewers in the UK as the show has been available on iTunes since February 7th, 2012.

TVWise’s Acquisitions Scorecard has been updated with this new information.
