Exclusive: UKTV has closed a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to the second season of Hart of Dixie for its Really channel. I’m also being told that the show’s second season is tentatively scheduled to premiere in Spring 2013.
Created by Leila Gerstein, Hart of Dixie follows Doctor Zoe Hart, who, after her dreams of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon are crushed, accepts an offer to join a small practice in the town of Bluebell, Alabama. However, when Hart arrives in the town she finds that the doctor who offered her the job has since passed away and has left her the practice in his will. The drama series from Warner Bros. Television stars Rachel Bilson (The OC), Jaime King, Cress Williams, Wilson Bethel and Scott Porter.
UKTV has been hot on acquisitions in recent months. The company has started to earn itself a reputation as being home to a number of high profile imports. In addition to the recent acquisitions of TNT’s drama series Perception for its Watch channel and The Glades, The Protector and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior for Alibi, UKTV picked up the rights to USA Network’s White Collar, which had been without a UK broadcaster since Bravo shut down. The company has also recently picked up the rights to the second season of Grimm (which is set to premiere on Watch on October 22nd), the third season of Covert Affairs (which will premiere on Really on September 19th), the third season of Rizzoli & Isles (which is set to air on Alibi early next year) and the second season of legal dramedy series Suits (which is set to premiere on Dave in early 2013). I’m still waiting to hear on the fates of Castle and Body of Proof, but I’m told that the acquisitions of the new seasons of both is imminent.
