Exclusive: The Gallaghers of Chicago, Illinois are returning to the UK. I have just learned that Channel 4 has closed a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution to acquire the UK broadcast rights to the second season of Shameless for its More4 channel. I’m also told that the show’s second season is tentatively scheduled to premiere on More4 in either late 2012 or early 2013.
Based on Channel 4’s series of the same name, Shameless (dubbed Shameless US by Channel 4 to diferentiate it from the original) was developed for US television by John Wells and follows the daily lives of the members of the blue collar Gallagher family who live in the South Side of Chicago. The working class family struggles to make ends meet while Frank, the patriach of the Gallagher clan, can usually be found at the local bar spending what little money they have. The drama series, which has already been renewed for a third season, stars William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Justin Chatwin, Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Joan Cusack, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton and Laura Slade Wiggins.
This is the latest in a number of deals Channel 4 has signed in the last few months to pick up subsequent seasons of their top performing US imports across their three main channels (Channel 4, E4 and More4). In addition to Shameless, the company has recently picked up the rights to NBC’s new comedy series The New Normal, the fourth season of The Good Wife, the second and (prospective) third seasons of Homeland and New Girl, the sixth season of The Big Bang Theory, the third season of The Big C, the fifth season of 90210, the eighth season of How I Met Your Mother, the second season of Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 and the fourth season of The Cleveland Show.
TVWise will bring you the UK Premiere Date for the second season of Shameless just as soon as it is announced by More4.
