Archive ITV1 Renews ‘Whitechapel’ For Fourth Season – TVWise

ITV1 has renewed its crime drama series Whitechapel for a fourth season of 6 episodes, which is set to air in 2013.
Created by Ben Court and Caroline Ip, Whitechapel follows a group of police detectives, led by Detective Inspector Joseph Chandler, as they investigate homicides which seem to be copycat killing based on historical crimes. The drama series is produced by NBCUniversal’s Carnival Films and stars Rupert Penry Jones as Detective Inspector Joseph Chandler, Phil Davis as Detective Sergeant Ray Miles and Steve Pemberton as Edward Buchan.
The renewal of Whitechapel had been expected for some time as the series has proved to be one of ITV1’s highest rated dramas across its first three seasons on the air. The drama series also joins ITV1’s other top performers Law & Order: UK, Scott & Bailey and Vera, all of which were recently renewed and will be returning to the channel in 2013.
Speaking of the renewal, Laura Mackie, ITV’s Director of Drama, said: “The first full series of Whitechapel was a huge hit with the ITV audience with its unique take on the crime genre and the brilliantly original combination of Chandler, Miles and Buchan. I’m so pleased that they’re coming back to solve more historically inspired crimes.”
While Executive Producer Sally Woodward added: “I’m thrilled that the audience enjoyed our new formatted triple dose of Whitechapel as much as we enjoyed making them. Ben and Caroline’s stories get richer the more they delve into the dark history of Whitechapel and with the brilliant, inventive mind of Steve Pemberton behind one of the stories, Whitechapel promises to reach new thrilling depths.”
