The third season of HBO’s period drama series Boardwalk Empire will receive its UK premiere on Sky Atlantic on Saturday September 29th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Boardwalk Empire was created by Terence Winter and follows the exploits of Nucky Thompson and his criminal enterprise in Atlantic City in the 1920′s. The drama series stars Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Jack Huston, Stephen Graham, Michael Stuhlbarg, Vincent Piazza, Paul Sparks, Michael Kenneth Williams, Gretchen Mol and Bobby Cannavale.

The show’s third season picks up twelve months after the explosive season two finale which saw main character Jimmy Darmody murdered by Nucky. As Prohibition progresses and the battle for alcohol intensifies and extends beyond Atlantic City, the bootlegging world is a far more violent place with Al Capone and other gangsters on the ascendancy. While the psychological impact of killing Jimmy takes its toll on Nucky and the war for the Boardwalk resumes, Margaret comes into her own. Plus, Nucky and Arnold Rothstein have a shared enemy to contend with the emergence of Gyp Rosetti.
