Ice Road Truckers follows a group of truckers who take to Manitoba’s treacherous Winter Roads in Canada. The Manitoba Winter Roads are 1,400 miles of twisting ice roads through some of the most remote and unforgiving terrain on the planet. The roads are marked by axle-crushing frost heaves, heart stopping ice crossings and frozen swampland. Hundreds of talented truckers have lost their lives trying to navigate this virtual obstacle course. One miscalculation of the road, bad weather or an unseen road hazard can be the difference between life and death. Even the most seasoned drivers will find themselves challenged by the conditions, isolation and lack of creature comforts. Only the most experienced truckers would dare to drive this route where big rigs slide off 100 foot cliffs, come head-on with other trucks around hairpin curves, and where whiteouts, avalanches and -70 degree temperatures are just a few of the fearsome challenges encountered on a daily basis. Could this be the end of the road for some of the drivers?
In the show’s sixth season, the Ice Road Truckers battle the farthest reaches of the North American continent. In Alaska, oil exploration is at an all-time high, and Carlile drivers are preparing for the busiest season in Dalton history. This year, they’ll push past Prudhoe Bay and head out onto the remote oil fields of the North Slope. In Manitoba, Canada, warm weather has made the normally rough winter roads barely passable, and every driver will be forced to battle the thinnest ice the winter roads have ever seen. In the Yukon, drivers take to Canada’s Dempster Highway, crossing rivers, lakes and even the Arctic Ocean to make deliveries to the northernmost settlements accessible by ice road. Veteran drivers Hugh Rowland, Alex Debogorski, Rick Yemm and Jack Jessee will compete with three newcomers in the dash for the cash.
