BBC Three has picked up half-hour comedy pilot Boom Town to series with a six episode order, it was announced today by BBC Three controller Zai Bennett at the Edinburgh International TV Festival.
Boom Town will feature real life people in the eponymous (and fictional) Boom Town, where they will appear to live together as a community. Fake road signs and carefully selected geography shots will all help create this illusion. Cast from all over the country, the characters will have their own catchphrases, eccentricities and larger than life personalities, none of which will be scripted for them; they’ll be simply playing themselves. Knickerbockerglory TV is producing with Karl Warner and Jonathan Stadlen serving as executive producers. Hannah Springham, who directed the pilot, will return as series director.
